Do I Need a Freebie?

business foundations Feb 07, 2020

Recently I had a conversation with one of my clients who does not have a freebie. As we are talking about plans for the business and her goals over the next few months I bring up to her that we need to create a freebie and start offering this is people to help build her email list. She was a bit confused and started saying things to me like, “Why should I have a freebie?”, “We don’t do email marketing so what’s the point?”, and “We don’t need to worry about that right now”. I had to stop her and give her some insight that I am going to share with you.

YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED A FREEBIE!

I don’t mean to yell but seriously! A freebie is essentially a free piece of content that provides value to your audience and ideal client. This freebie typically lives on your website and requires people give you their email in exchange for this piece of content. This is one of the easiest ways to build an email list and allows people to get to know your style before working with you. Freebies should be something that provides a large amount of value without taking a bunch of your time. I tell my clients that these pieces of content should take 2 hours or less to put together.

There are lots of benefits to having a freebie. First one is that it gives people an idea of who you are, your work style, and how well you know your stuff. As a consumer, these are important pieces of information and getting them for free makes my life a lot easier and your eventual sales pitch a lot easier! Second, having a freebie helps you create a highly targeted group of leads to speak to on a regular basis. Because people are putting their email in and you are collecting this information, you already know that they are interested in what you have to say and what you offer. This means you can nurture them with more value and potentially sell to them later. Finally, having a freebie helps establish you as an authority in your industry. Showing people you know what you are talking about helps establish credibility because you are putting all your cards on the table.

Now I know you might be saying to yourself, “I don’t have anything to offer” but here’s the thing sis, you have TONS to offer! I remember when I first started out and someone asked me to create a freebie. I had this exact same thought! Your brain saying, “I don’t have anything to offer” is just it’s way of protecting you from something outside your comfort zone. If you really don’t know what to create, look on Google for others in your industry and see what they are offering as free value (don’t copy them, just get ideas). This method of market research will spark the creative juices in you and before you know it, you will have several ideas for freebie and the challenge will be picking just one! You have knowledge ready to be shared and just need a little inspiration!

If you try this and still can’t come up with a freebie, feel free to schedule a call with me and we can talk about what you can offer as a business owner and how to use this to gain highly targeted leads in your business.
