YOU are the expert!

Are you hoarding opinions?

One of my favorite quotes is, “opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and chances are they all stink.”

This is something I tell my clients on a pretty regular basis when I catch them getting hung up on the opinion of someone else. I call this opinion hoarding because you are holding on to something that is not helping you and should have been thrown out! I see it happen in lots of the Facebook groups I’m in, people ask for opinions on their pricing, services, and branding. It happens constantly!

Don’t get me wrong there is a time and place for everything, including opinions, but opinions should be reserved for market research on a product or feedback when a customer buys something from you. Getting opinions on things like your pricing from people who could potentially be your customers is like a Grocery store asking customers what they want to pay for their produce. If you give potential customers the opportunity to choose their price, services, or anything else that relates to them, you will get an incredibly biased opinion and end up hurting your business because of it.

It’s important to remember that YOU are the expert in your field. Not your mom, or your friend, or your husband… YOU! Do you think Marie Forleo or Amy Porterfield doubt their pricing or services? Hell No! They have owned their expertise in their space and are wildly successful because of it. In fact, this is something Marie Forleo talks about in her book, Everything is Figureoutable. She talks about thinking of yourself as an expert even if you are new to the business, because your thoughts determine your actions and life.

If you want to be thought of as an expert in your field, you need to act like one. So take those opinions with a grain of salt and start doing what you, the expert, think is best. Making this change in mindset will make all the difference in your business and result in you gaining more clients at a higher price point. People pay a premium for experts, and you, my friend, are an expert!
